“What you have is Mitt Romney running around the country saying, well, you know, my wife tells me that what women really care about are economic issues, and when I listen to my wife, that’s what I’m hearing. Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life. She’s never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school and how do we — why do we worry about their future.”
These remarks by Hilary Rosen, a CNN Democratic pundit, caused the GOP, aided by FOX News, to go into an apoplectic fit. They claimed that Hilary Rosen’s comments were an “attack” on stay at home moms. This was all because Rosen didn’t say three words that were implied in her statement: “Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life outside the home .” Anyone with even half of a brain knew what she was saying. The Romney campaign tried tie Hilary Rosen to Obama and the Democratic Party. Hilary Rosen is a paid pundit on CNN, she does not work for, nor does she have any ties to the Obama or any official ties to the Democratic Party,
Could Hilary Rosen have been a little more articulate in the way she expressed her views? Absolutely. Was her statement an “attack” on stay at home moms? Not at all.
So when someone implies that he is going to assassinate President Obama, the GOP would immediately and without reservation roundly denounce the words…right? Not on this planet.
“Nugent called President Obama a criminal and denounced his “vile, evil America-hating administration” which is “wiping its ass with the Constitution.” Taking it a step further, he said that “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” “If you can’t galvanize and promote and recruit people to vote for Mitt Romney, we’re done,” he continued.
Supreme Court justices also came under assault by Nugent, who claims that the court’s more liberal members have signed a declaration against Americans’ right to self-defense:
“We’ve got four Supreme Court justices who don’t believe in the Constitution. Does everyone here know that four of the Supreme Court justices not only determined you don’t have the right to keep and bear arms, four Supreme Court justices signed their name to a declaration that Americans have no fundamental right to self-defense.”
Nugent concluded with a call to cut off the heads of Democrats in November: “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Any questions?”
Mitt Romney’s campaign was asked if he would denounce Ted Nugent’s words about President Obama. They issued a statement about it: “Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from,” Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul told TPM. “Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil.” Wow. What a denouncement. The favorite tactic of the GOP is to blame “both sides of the aisle” for any offensive language the hateful Republicans and Tea Party idiots might spew.
The Secret Service however, has taken Ted Nugent comments seriously and issued this statement: “We are aware of it, and we’ll conduct an appropriate follow-up,” a spokesman for the government agency told New York Magazine.
This tepid response from the Romney campaign shouldn’t have surprised anyone based on their response to other right-wing lunatics ravings. On April 30th Rush Limbaugh said this about law student Sandra Fluke after she testified to Congress about contraceptives:
“What does it say about the college co-ed Sandra Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps.”
The response from Romney was a typical right-wing pander to their insane base: “I’ll just say this, which is, it’s not the language I would have used.” What language would you used Mitt? Which words are okay when you are calling a woman a slut and a prostitute? How do you soften that?
When anyone implies that they are going to kill our president, they should be soundly denounced by all politicians, regardless of political affiliation. By not denouncing these remarks, and the racist and violent rhetoric on display at Tea Party rallies, the GOP are giving their tacit support to these kind of nut-jobs.
If you vote for the GOP this November, this is what you are going to get: Politicians who will support lunatics and their ravings just to get into power. If the Republicans are willing to go this far to get into power, what is it that they won’t do? The answer is nothing. There is nothing the GOP won’t do in their effort takeover this county.
