The Republicans insist they want to take this country back, though they never say from whom or what. However, if you listen closely to what they say, they will tell you precisely where they want the country to be.
The Republican Party and the conservatives in this country want to deregulate almost everything. That is what they do. Get rid of regulations and cut taxes for the rich and for corporations.
The Republicans also want to get rid of our social programs, (Medicare, Social Security, etc). They use the word “privatize” which is just another word for dismantle.
Then there is the whole contraceptive debate going on right now. The Republicans would also like to get rid of birth control.
Now that we know what the Republicans are about, let’s find out where they want to take the country.
1965 – They would like to get rid of Medicare. That would take this country back to before 1965 – before Medicare
1965 – The Republican Party would also like to get rid of birth control, which would also place this country pre-1965.
1937 – The Republicans want to “privatize” Social Security. That would take this country to pre – 1937
1929 – The deregulating Republicans got rid of almost all of the protections put into place during and after the Great Depression. It was the lack of those regulations that brought us the economic crash of 2012 and will bring the next economic disaster since our government hasn’t taken steps to stop it. Getting rid of those regulations puts this country pre – 1929.
19th century – The Republican Party would like there to be fewer regulations on corporations so they could do whatever they want to do. They would allow the corporations to consolidate and monopolize, (just like the health care insurance industry is now, a monopoly). This would put us back to pre – Teddy Roosevelt. Or as it is also known, the Gilded Age, which occurred roughly between the Civil War and WWI.
There you go. Now we know exactly where the Republicans want to take America: To the 19th century when women were barefoot and pregnant and a few powerful men ran the country. Like it is now, only on steroids.
