This story may be familiar to some of you–I discovered it earlier this year and it was especially meaningful to me, having experienced an “epiphany” in my faith-walk:

I Won’t Go Down That Trammeled Way

{Any resemblance to individuals real or imagined is ultimately the responsibility of the reader~}

A familiar path, not very long
Nor far, I surmised, to travel—
A road I felt was safe by night
Though it curved a bit, risk-brambled.

I was alone, and it was late—
Didn’t occur to me to deviate
Giggling at myself, private thoughts
I may have appeared the idiot—
But there was none around to hear
And innocent, I knew no fear.

Continuing on, I noticed fog
Beginning its approach, gathering ‘bout—
All the post lamps, they were suddenly
Broken, gone—maybe shot straight out?
