How Republican Policies and Views are Antithetical to Christian Values

In this article I am going to prove the point that those who profess to be Christian are actually voting against those very Christian values when they cast a vote for a Republican.

Christianity is based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the Ten Commandments. Jesus taught us to be tolerant, and value another person’s worth, not by what they do, but rather by who they are. Jesus taught us that greed is sinful, and helping those less fortunate is the path to righteousness. Jesus taught us to be passive and peaceful and to love your enemies. He also taught we should be honest and respectful.

These are basic Christian values. These are the principles that Christians are supposed to live their life by. These are also not the values and principles that the Republican Party is about.

You cannot serve both God and Money. [Matthew 6:24.]

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. [Matthew 19:21]

The Republicans are the party of corporate America and the very rich. Ask them and they will tell you that. GW even jokingly said, (many a truth is told in jest), “This is an impressive crowd: the Have’s and Have-more’s. Some people call you the elites. I call you my base.” Even though the rich have seen their income over the past couple of decades skyrocket while the average American has seen their income actually drop, the Republicans still want to give them more. The worst part is that the money they want to give the corporations and the rich, is money coming from the middle class and the poor. The Paul Ryan budget that all but four Republicans in the House of Representatives voted for transfers trillions of dollars from the poor and the middle class to the richest people in this country. Think about that: They are proposing to take money from the poor and give it to the rich. This is accomplished by making the middle class and poor pay more for their Medicare benefits they receive and receiving less in benefits as well. The savings from that move, (according to the Congressional Budget Office, each person on Medicare would have to pay $6000 more per year for their health care coverage. Meanwhile also contained in his budget are tax cuts for corporations and the very wealthy. He proposes ending Medicare, as we know it through a voucher program that would put Medicare in the hands of private insurance companies where they can charge as much as they want while denying the sick and poor health care.

Since 1980 the wealth in this country has steadily been transferred upwards to the wealthiest of the wealthy. This is a Republican policy. They know what they are doing and they do it anyway. They do not care about the average person so long as they get what they want. The trickle-down economic theory is actually a flood-up economic policy in reality.

Through corporate America’s greed, America and the world have suffered the second worst economic calamity of all time. Yet, the Republicans support these greedy people, going so far as to write legislation that allows them to be even greedier.

This cannot be said enough: The Republican Tea Party wants to cut programs that allow the poor to feed their children and pay the rent. They want to cut Pell Grants that allow poor kids to go to college. They want to cut unemployment insurance. They want to cut the food stamp program. They want to cut Medicaid and Medicare. They are taking the most disadvantaged in our society and cutting the social safety net they rely on to survive. The Republican Tea Party might as well be throwing them out onto the street because what they are doing is going to have that result in the end.

Thou shall not kill
The Republican Tea Party believes in the death penalty. How anyone can be for the death penalty now that more than a dozen people have been found to be innocent through DNA evidence is beyond me. That means that we as a country have executed innocent people. We have executed people because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time or pissed off the wrong person. My beliefs are that killing is wrong, and killing the innocent is way beyond wrong.

Not only does the Republican Party sanction killing through the death penalty, they also sanction killing on the battlefield. The leadership of the Republican Party lied to the American people so we would go along with attacking a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with us. (Iraq) So not only did they lie about the war, that lie got thousands of innocent Iraqis killed: More innocent blood being spilled because of the policies of the Republican Tea Party.

Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor
The Republicans, being the party of big business, are also the party of huge defense contractors. When there is a war, those contractors make a ton of money. So, not only did the Republican Party lie us into Iraq, they did it for money. Let me say that again. The Republicans killed innocent people for money.

Lying us into Iraq isn’t the only time they lie either. Yes, politicians fudge the facts sometimes; play a little loose with the truth, however it is only the Republicans that make stuff up out of whole cloth. It is only the Republican Tea Party who makes things up in order to defame another.

Case in point: The so-called “death panels” in the health care bill. There are no death panels and the Republicans know that. However they were more than willing to spread that lie around so they could defeat health care. Not only do they lie, they do it for personal monetary gain. They lie because they are greedy in other words.

Another case in point: The Republican Tea Party lied about where President Obama was born. They also implied that President Obama is a terrorist. Painting Barack Obama as “other” so they could win a political race.

The Republicans have nothing but disdain for those who have “less than.” They call them freeloaders and bums. Every chance they get they cut out the very programs designed to help the poor get a leg up, and keep the middle class from becoming poor. They are all about helping the greedy even to the detriment of those who are struggling. The very same struggling people whom Jesus implored us to help.

To recap: The Republicans are not tolerant, nor do they value those they feel are “less than” they are. They not only protect the greediest of our society, they help them to become even richer and enable their horrific greed.

The Republicans are not honest and will lie to get their way. Not only will they lie, they will smear someone else with their lies. Some of their lies have even cost innocent people their lives.

The Republican Party is about killing, both here domestically with the death penalty and overseas with the wars of choice we are fighting right now: Wars where hundreds of thousands of people, the vast majority being innocent civilians, have been killed.

The Republican Tea Party is about doing whatever they can to attain and retain power, and to make as much money as possible. All of these “values” are in direct conflict with Christian values.

These are the values you are voting for when you vote for a Republican. These are the policies and actions you are endorsing with your vote. By doing that, these might as well be your values as well since you are supporting them.

Thanks. I do what I can. Sometimes people don’t see the big picture; they don’t put all of the pieces together. That’s what I try to do, put it all together in a nice coherent fashion.

Thank you! I get really tired of the hypocrisy coming from those who claim to be “Christians” when pretty much everything they do goes against those very values.
