Halftime In America

The Republican leadership and other conservatives have come out against this ad. (Republicans See Politics in Chrysler Super Bowl Ad) They think it is some type of plot from the Democrats. The commercial is about hope in America and how we can make things better in this country if we come together. Why is the Republican leadership against this ad? Is it too hopeful? Or is it that is reminds Americans that if we had allowed what the Republican Party wanted, we would no longer have an auto industry in this country? Instead, President Obama, at great political risk, loaned GM and Chrysler money and saved literally millions of jobs.

Seriously Republicans, not everything in the world is political. Some issues are American issues, not left nor right. This ad is one of those issues.

Here is the ad in its entirety. I don’t see the Democratic Party subliminal message that the paranoid right wing sees. I only see hope and a brighter future:

P.S. Clint Eastwood is a Republican.

The commercial stands in my mind as brilliant. What we have needed for a long time is someone who can rally us to a higher plane, an American one; not red, blue, purple, tea party, coffee party or any other title. The purpose of which, in my mind is just to fragment us. Obama in 2008 was that rallying leader, remember “Yes We Can”? Don’t know what happened to him, but he dropped his mantra.
And, BTW, the ad agency is in and most, if not all, of the ad’s content came from Portland OR. My part time state.
Congratulations to Clint Eastwood, who is no friend of the present administration or any Democrat. (He does like Jerry Brown, Gov. of CA.)
Congratulations to Chrysler to have the chutzpah to pay for the ad and subsequent print ads.
And congratulations to most of the American public for endorsing it. (Came in 3rd as favorite ad of the Super Bowl)
Let Karl Rove and all of his ilk pout if they want to. Let’s just walk all over them, ignore them, and get on with the business of being Americans!
