TWO POEMS FOR MEMORIAL DAY
by Caddo Veil • • 0 Comments
“Memorial Day ‘70”
Never to forget—
all our dreams undreamed.
Never to forget—
our children uncreated.
Never to forget—
the loved ones we left waiting;
their hopes, their lives unclasped from ours.
Never to forget—
our voices young, our laughter strong.
Never to forget—
our places are held by your memories.
Never to forget—
our victories on the football field,
debates we won, songs we sung,
our baby shoes and first tuxedo,
fishing poles and rock collection,
the cowlick time would never tame—
Please don’t forget each soldier’s name.

How I Support the Troops

As America finds herself in the middle of yet another war, the drumbeat of: “If you don’t support the war, you don’t support the troops,” meme has arisen once again. It isn’t as prolific as it was during the Iraq War and there aren’t national Republicans talking about supporting the war to support the troops on TV, but it is there just the same. Now there is a little twist to that theme as well. “If you don’t support the war in Libya, then you wanted thousands of civilians to be slaughtered.” It is never that black and white.
