Middle Class

A Graphic the Republicans Don’t Want You to See

Without the labor movement and the unions in this country, we would have none of these benefits. Put Republicans in charge and we will soon be in a place prior to the labor movement, i.e. without any benefits at all. More about the importance of unions in American history and in America’s future: Why Unions are Important to America

Student Loan Vote: Republicans Block Bill To Extend Low Interest Rates

The oath of allegiance to never raise taxes that the Republican Party took to Grover Norquist is being honored above the oath they took to this country to do their jobs. Is this who you want in control? A party that cares more about an oath of allegiance to an unaccountable non-politician than they do about the oath they took to this country? The Republican Party is off of the rails and out in the weeds. The control of this country, on every level, needs to be wrested away from the Republican Tea Party.

House Transportation Bill ‘Technical Correction’ Would Strip Workers Of Pay Protections

Sometimes the actions of the Republicans appear to be baffling. Some of the policies they propose seem to be nothing more than a way to take money and power from the poor and middle class and transfer it to the rich. It appears that way because that is they way it is. Fact: The Republicans favor giving tax cuts to the very rich. Fact: The Republicans favor getting rid of the social safety net. The Republicans favor getting rid of the social safety net so there will be more funds made available to give to their rich patrons through tax cuts. When you give a tax cut to someone, that reduces the revenue going to the federal government. That loss has to be made up somewhere. Right now, that loss is being made up by the American people losing their social services, firemen, policemen, and teachers. This is a direct transfer of money out of the bank accounts of the middle class and the poor into the bank accounts of the very rich.

Koch Brothers – The Evil Thing

The Koch brothers, for those of you who don’t know, were the driving force and the financiers of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. A decision where the court found that money = free speech, and corporations = people so not allowing corporations to spend corporate money freely in our elections was abridging their right to “free speech”. Yes, corporations are protected under the First Amendment so they can buy our elections.

The Wealth Defense Industry

This is worse than obscene, and the problem has only gotten worse since this graph was made

Not only do the wealthy get to buy our politicians, but they also employ an army to ensure a continuation of their wealth.

1).  We have an entire industry built up around defending the wealthy who then employ lobbyists to make sure our politicians do what they want.

2). We have an electoral system that encourages people and corporations to buy our politicians, and they do so on a regular basis.
