With that statement, Sen. McConnell kicked off an era of obstructionism in Washington DC never before seen in American history. The Republicans stood by their word too. Forcing virtually every bill in the Senate to have to garner 60 votes just so the bill can be brought to the floor to be voted on. (Some of the bills McConnell and his cronies filibustered ended up passing unanimously when the Republicans finally allowed a vote). The bills that passed the Senate then went to die in the House.

A Practical Approach to Marijuana Control

Here is an excellent argument for I-502, (legalizing marijuana), in Washington State and every other state thinking about legalizing marijuana:

“Initiative 502 is an initiative to the Legislature that would legalize, tax and regulate marijuana under Washington state law. It would authorize the Liquor Control Board to license Washington businesses to produce and sell limited quantities of marijuana to adults 21 and over. It would also impose a new excise tax and earmark revenues for substance abuse prevention, research, education, and health care. Retail sales tax, and part of the excise tax, would go to the state general fund and local budgets.”

Every Rape is Legitimate *Updated

This man didn’t misspeak, he articulated the Republican Party’s position on rape and abortion

*Update: The Republican National Committee has voted to include in their platform language that would outlaw all abortions without exception. Akin and Ryan’s positions on rape is part of the Republican platform and has been since 2004.

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (getting pregnant from rape) is really rare,” Rep. Todd Akin, (R-MO) told KTVI-TV on Friday “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” (Emphasis added).

Zimmerman charged with 2nd-degree murder

This charge is surprising. All of the legal experts I saw on television said that the charge would be the lesser manslaughter charge.

“(CBS/AP) George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin to death in Sanford, Florida nearly two months ago, will be charged with second-degree murder in the incident.

The special prosecutor in the case, Angela Corey, announced the charge against Zimmerman at an early Wednesday evening news conference held at the Jacksonville State Attorney’s office in Jacksonville, Florida. She also announced that Corey is in custody. The prosecutor won’t disclose Zimmerman’s whereabouts for his safety.
