Government

Why are we allowing the GOP drive the narrative?

question_markAusterity. Austerity. Austerity.

Right now the talk in Washington DC is about what and how much to cut. That is the wrong discussion we should be having. We should be talking about how to create jobs for the American people.

The deficit is going down. It is now half of what it was in 2009.

More spending cuts at this time are going to slow the economy.

Austerity, (spending cuts), failed in Europe.

The best and fastest way to lower the deficit and the debt is to get Americans working again so they can pay taxes.

GOP Tries to Bring European-Style Austerity to America

rich-poorThe House GOP released its budget today to avoid the March 27th government shutdown. (A shutdown that just like the last five “crises” is Republican manufactured and does not have to occur at all). Their budget restores a lot of the spending cuts from the sequester to the Defense Department and keeps all of the cuts to America’s social safety net.

Republicans are Showing the World That Democracy Doesn’t Work

Party before countryThe Republicans have forced sequestration on the country with their refusal to negotiate with President Obama or the Democrats. They know it will be devastating to the country, (their words not mine), and yet they did it anyway.

The Democrats had a bill in the Senate to end sequestration, which got 51 votes, but the Republicans filibustered it so it went nowhere. It would have been killed in the House anyway; just like almost every other bill that has passed the Senate.

President Obama put forth a proposal as well. A proposal that the Republicans fail to even acknowledge.

Hubris: Selling the Iraq War

HubrisMonday, 2/18 on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC at 6pm PST the host, Rachel Maddow, narrated a documentary called Hubris: Selling the Iraq War. It is based on a book by the same name co-authored by Michael Isikoff and David Corn. It examines the run up to the Iraq War and the failures of the Bush administration to look at the evidence. Evidence that showed there were no weapons of mass destruction, (WMDs), in Iraq; evidence that showed Saddam Hussein did not have a nuclear program; and the evidence that Saddam Hussein was not affiliated with Osama bin Laden and/or Al Quaida.

The GOP Brings Back McCarthyism

Ted-Cruz-closeup-630x526

Ted “McCarthy” Cruz. No smear is too sleazy for this Republican dirtbag.

In the 1950s a Senator by the name of Joe McCarthy conducted an extensive witch-hunt for “communists” in the US government, using smears, innuendo, lies, and guilt by association. With little to no proof Senator McCarthy ruined the careers of many people with his questioning and innuendos.

The same thing is occurring in the Senate again. Sen. Ted Cruz, (R-TX), tried to smear former Senator Chuck Hagel, Obama’s nominee to be secretary of defense, using the same exact tactics used in the 1950s by Senator McCarthy.

With all Due Respect Sir, But You Are an Idiot

Harry ReidTo Senator Harry Reid, (D-NV), Senate majority Leader:

You had a chance to stop the Republican’s long march to destroy America’s democracy, and yet you didn’t. Instead, you took the word of Mitch McConnell, a Republican, and his assurances that this time it will be different.

Instead we have a situation that has never occurred in this country before. For the first time in American history, a Secretary of Defense is being filibustered; requiring the new Republican anti-democratic 60 vote threshold. All this while we are in a war, North Korea is testing nuclear weapons again, Iran is still trying to build nukes, there is a summit next week with our allies about what is happening in Afghanistan and the logistics of the drawdown and there are a couple of new policies that need implementing. Republicans are weakening America’s defenses in the name of their ideology.
